| I know change is hard but maybe you'll open your mind in the future. I can tell you that less tesla's have burst into flames than "old" ICE (internal combustion engine) style vehicles. As for self driving mode, most crashes are the result of driver error.. as is usually the case. for example, the driver is required to stay alert in the driver's seat, with their hands on the wheel. I think a Prius, Mirai, or tesla are all great options, depending on where your live, how far you drive, and how access to fuel/charging sources. | Wow, I wish I had those cars when I was 17. I actually would not even recommend getting the tesla. You may save on gas but that tesla is 7+ years old and this was amongst the earlier Model S in that generation (first came out in 2012) and anything that breaks (remember there are lots of computers and fancy electronics on board that only tesla can service since they don’t share information with independent mechanics or DIYers) will cost a small fortune to fix, you may offset the cost savings (in gas) with very expensive repairs. EVs lose range as the speed increases. | Because tesla is the latest status symbol. It's the BMW/Mercedes for millennials. You can be a mindless consumer while earning brownie points for pretending to care about environmental causes, all while signalling wealth and status to bolster your ego. The only time I've ever rented was for long trips so no tesla rental for me. (I would not want to rent one anyway for other reasons.) In short, it's a bubble.
