Hello, I'm a long time viewer and subscriber of the Scotty Kilmer channel and love the content. I'm 17 and recently I drive a 2007 Lexus LS460 L along with a 2004 Volvo XC90 and a 2002 Porsche Boxster, recently I've noticed that I'm spending a lot of money on gas between all of my vehicles and I'm interested in selling or trading in my Lexus for a 2014 Tesla Model S P85D. My question is, should I keep my Lexus or try and sell/trade it in on a Tesla? Doing so would save a lot of money per month on gas with the Tesla as most of my driving is done in the city. Thank you for viewing, looking forward to seeing some answers.
Go with what works for you financially. Mileage on the cars isn't mentioned so that is another consideration. I'm guessing you drive the Lexus most and the V8 fuel bill is bugging you. Mine did too when I had my 460. People saying sell the Porsche don't realize it doesn't guzzle gas and likely comes out once a month on a clear weekend. Plus the Lexus would make a better trade on value wise.
If you want a Tesla, go for it. Just make sure you work within your budget and know what you are getting into. If I bought an EV today it would be a Tesla as well. They are fun to drive and well designed. All the EV's have downsides as the tech is still developing.
If the Lexus is trouble free, I’d actually sell the Porsche & get the Tesla, if you’re really worried about $$$..
Out of all of the cars you have the Lexus is the last one that you should be selling. Sell the Porsche first followed by the Volvo. Also don't touch a Tesla with a 50 foot pole. Those are probably the worst electric cars on the market. If you really want an electric car get a Nissan Leaf.
Don't buy the leaf, tesla is far better, the leaf is known for poor thermal management. I remember my dad deciding between a Focus Electric and a leaf, he picked the Ford for being cheaper and having better thermal management and he may soon get a Tesla Model 3 for better range.
Scotty even said that the Leaf is the best elecric car on the market. Teslas are endless moneypits.
Wow, I wish I had those cars when I was 17. I actually would not even recommend getting the Tesla. You may save on gas but that Tesla is 7+ years old and this was amongst the earlier Model S in that generation (first came out in 2012) and anything that breaks (remember there are lots of computers and fancy electronics on board that only Tesla can service since they don’t share information with independent mechanics or DIYers) will cost a small fortune to fix, you may offset the cost savings (in gas) with very expensive repairs. I would get rid of the Lexus for something more fuel efficient - I can’t make a recommendation which vehicle to get to replace the Lexus without knowing what kind of vehicle you want (besides good on gas).
I have come to realize that when someone makes up their mind to buy a Tesla, no matter how much you dissuade them, they are gonna buy it. It works that way for all/most ‘halo’ cars. The human brain works in strange ways sometimes..
you're 17, you don't need to own 3 gas guzzlers, much less 1
I'd sell them all and get the best Honda civic or accord coupe I could find. Just do your research and make sure the year you are buying isn't known for any major problems
