Hey guys quick question?
I have my best buddy more like brother in California. He told me about increasing gas prices in California and how are they gonna banned gas car. So he was planning to buy tesla but I told him why he shouldn't buy tesla right now . So do you think they are good investments right now or should wait till 2030.
Right now he drives toyota camry v6 2000 car has 450000 miles on it and still running like new except speedometer acting up so he got external speedometer
Sorry I meant why shouldn't you buy tesla right now my bad
Fixed. Do you mean Mirai & Prius?
Yes my bad I meant to say toyota Mirai and Pirus
Number 1. A car is not an investment vehicle (no pun intended), because it does not make you money. It gets you from point A to point B. Some are more reliable than others. Some cost more than others. And some cost more to maintain than others.
It's true, gas cars are going to be banned by 2035. That is more than a decade a way. The technicality is that NEW gas cars will be banned, but there will still be tons on the road.
I think a Prius, Mirai, or Tesla are all great options, depending on where your live, how far you drive, and how access to fuel/charging sources.
Mirai's are great, if you have access to hydrogen fuel. That's what is holding the Mirai back. The infrastructure for fuel isn't there. But if you live and drive primarily in an area that has hydrogen fuel stations, the Mirai isn't a bad choice.
Same with the Tesla. If you don't mind waiting for SuperChargers, or planning your long road trips with SuperCharger stations in mind, and you have a means to charge the vehicle, it's a fine choice. (Besides the fit and finish).
If you do a ton of road trips and time is precious to you, the Prius is probably the best bet. Because gas is everywhere and it doesn't take too long to fill up.
It all really depends on what the car will be used for. Tesla's are sexy. Mirai's are alluring. And Prius's are for all intents and purposes, practical. But at the end of the day, the question is does the vehicle fit what you need it to do for you and make you happy.
I agree with you what you said I don't much about Toyota pirus or Mirai. He said he saved up enough to get a new car but needed professional opinion and he lives and work primarily from California and told me he has hydrogen station I think 8miles ahead from his house. The reason I said wait by 2030 was because see if toyota or hinda bring any new cars and see if Mirai lives upto toyota name and any issues..
I did some research that toyota did all sorts of test even fire bullets to see if it explodes or not so yeah.
It’s tough to wait, because there will always be something better. If he was waiting a year or two, I’d say wait. But 2030 is 9 years away. That’s a long time to wait. And by that time, it will probably be time for another new or brand new used car.
Oh trust me, living in California, the current gas prices are insanely high for me at least. $4.50 average for 91 octane. Some go as high as $4.75 rn. "The executive order will not prevent Californians from owning gasoline-powered cars or selling them on the used car market."
Get the Prius, the mirai is kinda too new/small pool of current technology. It's a pain in the butt to fill the car up as well, and good luck with hydrogen fueling stations...
You shouldn't even consider the Mirai unless you are in LA, even then the hydrogen fuel infrastructure isn't good yet. The Prius should be your best bet for now. Maybe 10 15 years later he could buy an EV.
Regarding Tesla’s, see below: If he really wants one, I would only recommend to lease one (for EVs, only lease at the moment).
