| Answer to: Conventional oil or synthetic? Recommended use for 38-year-old car | 20Relevance | 2 weeks ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| It's your choice. synthetic oil is more expensive but has better lubrication properties and lasts longer. (I use synthetic oil in my nearly 60-year-old Rebel convertible and my other older vehicles.) | |||||
| Answer to: Should I use full synthetic oil in a 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado? | 20Relevance | 3 years ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I use full synthetic oil in my 1965 and 1967 Ramblers and have not had any issues. (However I do not use modern weights such as 0W16, 5W20, etc. and stick with 10W30 or 10W40 weights which are still readily available.) The only real problem would be if you have worn engine seals. synthetic oil flows more readily than the conventional type which can result in leaks with marginal seals. | |||||
| Answer to: Synthetic Oil or Not | 20Relevance | 4 years ago | Doc | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I agree with @chucktobias partially but my point is, the needle bearings in those lifters disintegrate and allow the lifter to carve up the cam like it's on a lathe. Whether or not expensive synthetic oil can alleviate the poor quality of the part itself is open for debate. Personally, I doubt that really good oil will ever fix inferior parts. You could always put what you save from not using synthetic in a fund for the time when the lifters and cams do go out. At least you'll be a little ahead of the game. | |||||
| Is it OK to use Amsoil synthetic oil ? | 20Relevance | 4 years ago | gman121 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 2016 Toyota 4Runner Limited with 101,000 miles, automatic transmission. I don't have the maintenance history as I bought it a couple months ago from a dealer. My mechanic recommends Amsoil synthetic oil, should I switch to this synthetic in your opinion, any benefits over OEM oil? Should I have the transmission fluid replaced or is the mileage too high? I am having no problems, runs like new. Thank you. | |||||
| Answer to: Synthetic oil better on engine parts than conventional ? | 20Relevance | 5 years ago | yaser | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The most important thing is to use correct oil viscosity and change the oil and filter every 5k miles (or once a year). Choosing between synthetic, semi synthetic or conventional is your choice. | |||||
