| Answer to: Should I buy this Lexus? | 35Relevance | 1 year ago | Hixster | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Too much for a 15 year old car. Try using the kbb website as a general guide for car values. Prices on the kbb site tend to be overinflated as those retail values are supported by dealer supplied, reported sales. When selecting a cars "condition" stick with "good condition" and when looking at the price/value range use "private party". | |||||

| The Kelley Blue Book value for that Civic in good condition with 78K miles is between $8158 and $10477. kbb's values are typically inflated because the data comes from the dealers. This dealer is asking a price that is above the full retail value for that car. 2012 Honda Civic EX (KBB price range) | |||||
| Answer to: 2009 Lexus ES500 with 68K | 35Relevance | 2 years ago | Hixster | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| That price is by no means a 'special deal'. kbb reports the retail value of that car with 68K miles to be between $8147 and $9490.. kbb values are typically inflated. Ignore what the dealer tells you about this car. Do have your mechanic inspect it before purchasing. | |||||

| I too had the same bad experience with the kbb Instant Cash Offer program. Priced out my 2004 Lexus SC430 and received an ICO of $13,567 and immediately contacted by 3 dealerships that refused to honor that price despite participating in the program. All cited market surveys that they did independent of what kbb is supposed to represent. When I complained to kbb, they stated it was not their problem and that they were not involved in any of the cash transactions of the program that they ran and collected membership fees for. SCAM. Buyer beware. The dealershi ... | |||||

| So you basically want to flip one of these options. From someone with experience selling cars, let me offer some free advice: Toss the book value out the window. I don't care if you buy it for $500 and kbb says it is worth $50k, kbb isn't going to buy your car. Older, higher mileage cars are worth whatever two people agree is fair. And if you, for example, buy that Escalade, fix it, and put it up for sale for $9000, you'll be that guy whose Craigslist post is still online next year despite your ad saying "KBB says....". DO NOT put faith in book values. Peri ... | |||||

| Answer to: Should I buy a 2013 Accord for $21,000? | 18Relevance | 1 year ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I believe it was actually Scotty's son who was in the service. That sounds like a crazy high price for a 12-year-old Accord. Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com) pegs the fair purchase price of that vehicle at about $15K from a dealership, $13K from a private party - and their pricing estimates tends to be inflated. The low mileage is suspicious and would need to be verified. You can get an idea of failure trends here: | |||||

This person is asking 2 grand I might settle for less. kbb says its worth well over 9k in excellent condition. 2006 Tahoe (automatic) for 800 bucks. It says 2000 miles but I think it's 200,000 miles. They say it stalls out and the rear window doesn't work. kbb says its worth around 6500 to 7k. 2002 gmc envoy (automatic) for 1500 bucks. | Answer to: Should I buy a 2004 rav4 with 66k miles for 8k | 26Relevance | 11 months ago | Hixster | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Is this it? If so, the mileage is suspiciously low and Carfax is reporting a wreck/damage on 10/17/2014. One owner or not, I would be very wary of this vehicle because of the wreck and zero service records. And yet they're asking top dollar. Way above kbb Value . | |||||
| Answer to: 2017 Lexus 350 engine oil leak | 26Relevance | 1 year ago | Hixster | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Timing cover leaks can be costly to repair as they are labor intensive but $8K ? Go elsewhere and get a second opinion. kbb says that car's worth at least $18,000. In that price range your neighbor could spend 4-6 K more and still not buy a better car than what he owns now. I would suggest he have a different mechanic verify the issue and advise him on what might need to be done. | |||||
