| Answer to: Which Scan Tool Should I Get? | 25Relevance | 4 years ago | Whatchamacallit | How-to | |
| ... then you will need to spend over $1,000 (in some cases, well past this amount). These tools are truly computers with large memory, storage, processing speed and meant for professional mechanics and shops with high throughput. Most of these tools have one year of free software updates and hardware warranty, beyond which you will have to pay an exorbitant yearly fee to continually stay up to date. However, even without paying the fee, you can still use the tool but you just won't get the updates of course as well as the newer model year vehicles (which inc ... | |||||

| @xtoolsucks did you buy the scanner from a reputable dealer of the xtools? I believe xtools sells it themselves on Amazon, last I checked. . I never recommend anyone to buy an expensive piece of electronics from an unauthorized source due to all the issues you cite. | |||||

| ... 7. The only YouTube video I found on OBD pin 7 was on an Audi A3 with an issue on pin 7 (K line) as well because of a damaged wire. With key off & dongle off the OBD port, there was 0 V on pin 7. Out of curiosity, I did the same test on a 2001 Ford Escape with 4WABS, & pin 7 read 3.9 V & it was able to do ABS brake bleeding. Is the Ranger supposed to have the same voltage reading on pin 7 even though it was RABS? I had tested an xtool A30M to do ABS brake bleeding & it only worked on the Escape as well. I was able to return the xtool, get a ... | |||||

| ... it for good measure, but that's with all wheels up. It would be dangerous if it's on the road if you can't estimate when you're supposed to stomp repeatedly. I understand that you can't completely seal off the brake nipple, but as long as the suction's strong enough that should be somewhat negligible. I've even bought a manual pump brake bleeder that pressurizes from the reservoir instead to try & see if it would work, but I haven't started it yet because I need a cap that would seal completely & the one included doesn't fit right. I would've tried ... | |||||

| ... 4x, didn't completely bleed, but got lucky & the air eventually escaped to the reservoir. Brake bleeding with a buddy didn't work either. I've tried several OBD scanners that supposedly can do ABS brake bleeding: Innova 5160, Topdon ArtiDiag800BT, xtool A30M & Autel AP200, but none of them could do that on a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD. I asked & researched before using the xtool & Autel, both said it can but failed. I'm starting to doubt coverage checkers for other makers. What would be the best bang OBD scanner with ABS brake bleeding for m ... | |||||

| On paper, it appears the xtool is better since it has more capability than the Bluedriver including a full-system scan (i.e. scanning every computer onboard). However, the xtool is a fairly new company based in China and I don’t see any offices in North America. As with Chinese companies, they usually overpromise but under-deliver. If you have to get technical support or send in the device for repair it appears to all be in China, which doesn’t bode well. I know Scotty raves about the brand, but I am not convinced of them yet. I would hold off. I prefe ... | |||||
