| Leaking floor jack | 29Relevance | 5 years ago | Chucklee514 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Technically not a car, but it's somewhat related, so I hope it's ok. I have 2-1/2 ton TEQ floor jack. The piston seal just started leaking, and I was wondering if it would be worth trying AT-205. It seems like it's pretty miraculous stuff, and I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it. | |||||

| Yeah, doesn't instill much confidence. I have Harbor Freight floor jacks and they've been great but do not trust their jack stands. (I have some nice old-school heavy-duty Made-in-USA stands like you sometimes see Scotty using. Even with those I always make sure there is backup support before crawling under there.) | |||||

| I'm sure the Lexus rubber mats are nice, but does does anyone have experience with either the Weather Tech or the Husky Liners Weatherbeater floor liners? We have all four seasons, and I need something that will help keep the floor relatively clean. | |||||
| Answer to: USING the SCISSOR Jack to jack up the car??? | 30Relevance | 2 years ago | MountainManJoe | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Of course you can. I used scissor jacks for years. All my vehicles were supplied with a scissor jack by the manufacturer, including the current one. They're a bit more of a pain to use, and they're not terribly sturdy, but as you say they're light and the lift range is decent, which makes them great for carrying around in the trunk for emergencies. If yours has a hex head on the screw drive, you can even use power tools to go up and down. Obviously , you should still back it up with something. Scissor jacks aren't terribly stable, and they're only made of bent sheet metal. | |||||

| I'm sure they're fine as long as you don't exceed their limits. The floor jack probably won't last as long as better brands. | |||||

| Answer to: Changing a blown out tire on a uphill position. | 29Relevance | 4 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I'm a little confused about why the jack is falling over. I've never really seen that unless you're on a really steep hill; the weight of the car with chocked wheels or a parking brake should pin the jack in place unless you're jacking it up on a really steep incline. The car wants to fall down where the jack is if it weren't there, not slide backward if you did it properly. Block the rear wheels with bricks or something similar, set the parking brake and try to raise it to get a jack stand under it. This is why you're not really supposed to jack up vehicles on inclines unless you know what you're doing. Gravity is working against you in 2 directions: straight down into the ground and downhill. | |||||

| Hi scotty, I want to buy a dependable floor jack and 2 jack stands. Should I buy a Craftsman floor jack from Lowe's? What brand do you recommend? Do I need a 3 ton or a 2 ton if I'm just working on personal passenger cars and trucks? | |||||

| Yeah, that is a problem on those poorly designed cars. You'd be better off doing your suggestion, putting it off a little to the side and then putting the jakest stands on the lift points. | |||||

| Lousy jack & lug wrench that came with the car | 27Relevance | 4 years ago | jdavidm | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| 2007 Lexus ES350 3.5L V6 197K miles Scotty, et al A couple days ago, I got a flat tire. This car happens to have a full size spare. I used the jack & lug wrench provided by Toyota and thought there has got to be something better to use. The sissor jack is so flimsy I thought it could barely lift the corner of a Yaris. The lug wrench handle is only about 12" long, how am I supposed to loosen nuts that were tightened months ago by tire trainee with an impact wrench? Do you have any recommendations of a better jack and lug wrench that doesn't take up a lot of room in the trunk? | |||||
| Answer to: moving heavy trolley jack to use | 27Relevance | 4 years ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Given that's its a relatively small and light car you could consider a lighter aluminum jack. It would be a lot easier to move around. Always use jack stands, don't trust any jack to hold the car up when you're under it. | |||||

| When I need to work under the car, I use jack stands for safety. I lower the jack so the weight is shared by the jack and the stands. Do you do this too? | |||||
