| ... was in the CCV valve assembly, and it would suck raw oil out of the sump and burn it. It looked like the car John Candy drives as Uncle Buck. When I'd start it up, it would smokescreen. A friend of mine who knew cars better than me at the time, came out and sprayed starter fluid around the back of the engine. Vacuum leak. I replaced the CCV valve assembly. The light didn't go out for 45 minutes or so, then it went out, and the oil stopped burning. Firestone was going to just replace the 02 sensors and charge $500. To get information out of an OBDI vehicle ... | |||||

| ... will be simply on another level of roominess, quietness, and handling. I test drove one and it was real nice [I didn't buy it because in the end, I need a truck that can do real towing and hauling and other trucky things]. A lot of conversations on this site revert back to "don't buy an XX, get a Toyota or Honda instead." That's for good reason. But there can be good reasons to buy a Ford, too. And if you get one without a lot of complex options, drive it gently and maintain it religiously, you might get a ranger or Maverick to 200,000 miles. But if y ... | |||||

| Answer to: Push Rods on a 1998 Ford Ranger 4.0 | 18Relevance | 5 years ago | James St. Clair | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| That’s the ohv 4.0 which came from the 2.9. If the 4.0 has hydraulic lifters, like the 2.9 did, do what projectfarm on YouTube did with his 1988 2.9 ranger. It made it run much better. Not sure if such a problem could be in a 4.0 ohv, though. But I had an 87 ranger 2.9 and it helped mine. But on that engine, when it was cold outside and cold started, the lifters ticked since new, a couple seconds after startup. My dad bought the truck new and even complained to the dealer about it. But I sold it with about 185,000 miles and 21 years old and it still ran. | |||||
| RE: 2006 2.3L 4cyl Automatic Ford Ranger - How do I bleed air from a radiator that has no cap? | 18Relevance | 5 years ago | Dion | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| On the ranger FORUM there is some solutions they talk about: Now what I thought interesting is this: Loosen the heater hose that is on the highest outlet of the engine, but at the other end of that hose, i.e. the by-pass or the heater core(firewall), and fill, this lets most of the air out of the engine. Rest will come out on first cool down, reservoir level should drop so top it up after full cool down Check it out! | |||||

| It depends on how experienced you are on working on cars. The 5.0 never came in the ranger so that makes it harder. It looks like a few people have done it before so that's good. But at a minimum for the 5.0 swap you will need to get a matching transmission and all of the wiring. You will most likely also need a new driveshaft made to the correct length. Another thing to think about is can the ranger handle the extra power? I doubt a stock rear end can handle the torque from the v8. But if you want a fun project and enjoy working out bugs i would do it. | |||||

| Did you have the TSB done, or not? You posted in your first post that that you were unable to access the TSB. You can. The dealer isn't going to fix stuff for free unless it's a "goodwill repair" when the vehicle is out of warranty, though, and you really shouldn't expect Ford to care/ cover it. It hasn't been Ford's style to care for years. Ford's track record has been "Ford doesn't care" for at least the past 11 years. As an example, Ford's engineers knew the PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmissions that were being put in Ford's Fiestas and Focuses ... | |||||

| Hi Scotty. I've been shopping for a 2005-2007 Ford F350 4x4 dually 6.0 diesel for the better part of a year and a half. As we all know, it's very difficult to find one in decent shape for its age and typical use history. Also, I acknowledge the well known, well documented pattern problems with the 6.0 Powerstroke. My goal was to find the cleanest, rust free example with relatively low miles within that three year production run. I looked for a good balance of miles and engine hours, as well as a clean body and chassis; free of any problematic rust. I c ... | |||||
| Answer to: Ford hybrid reliability | 25Relevance | 2 years ago | Kaizen | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| My top choice for hybrids is Toyota. And then Honda. And in third place, cars that have Toyota technology in it. Depending on the year, Ford used Toyota (Aisin branded) hybrid transmissions in their cars. And most were Ford Duratec 4 cylinders that were decent engines. (someone correct me on that if my memory is mistaken). However, newer generation Ford Fusions used a Ford branded hybrid transmission. It’s hard to say whether it was just a rebrand of an Aisin transmission, or Ford manufacturing the Aisin transmission themselves. Or Ford making their own ... | |||||
| Answer to: Should I buy a Ford Explorer? | 24Relevance | 6 months ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The original Explorer (talking 1990s Explorers) was decent, but it had a tendency to flip over easily. Ford was caught off guard and rushed a compact, ranger-based Explorer into production. This was an extremely short-sighted "idea"; SUVs are a lot more top heavy than an equivalent truck. Shortly afterwards, Ford learned of the Explorer's tendency to roll over in crashes, so Ford's engineers recommended under-inflating the OEM tires to help minimize the chance of roll-over crashes. Firestone was not made aware of this and tires started blowing out because ... | |||||
| Answer to: Ford Ranger vs Ford Maverick | 24Relevance | 4 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The Maverick is based on the European Ford Focus MK4. I can’t really comment on the Hybrid version and no one truly knows anything about it yet - all that’s known is that Ford has a history of making the worst CVT/eCVT gearboxes and no reliability info is available yet about the latest generation. As far as the turbocharged petrol - The main difference is that Ford is offering the 2.0L EcoBoost as was offered in the Ford Edge - and it’s not a great engine by any stretch of the imagination! A bellow average but with proper care, 125k-150k miles is proba ... | |||||

| 2020 Ford fusion 2.0 eco awd 63,000miles. Which is all highway miles I travel out of state for work. I was heading from MA to Jersey and 10-15 mins left of the drive as I got off the jersey turnpike I notice a loud rattling noise. Whic I knew it was the cracked flywheel which I luckily limped to my hotel and left it. The next morning I tried having Ford tow it to a dealer who was 8 mins away and was going to charge me 150$ to tow. I call aaa and had them tow it there which I was told I would not be getting a loaner or rental car due to them not having any at ... | |||||
