| HELLO My great-grandma’s 1997 Dodge Stratus 89300 miles has been sitting since February of 2020. Has not been started and has not even moved since. My great-grandma quit driving so no one has driven the car It has been sitting outside the whole time in a climate where it gets cold in the winter. At the beginning of August, I jump-started the Stratus there were spider webs underneath the hood. I checked the oil before I crank the car and it was at a good level front passenger tire sunk into the concrete and was flat. I aired up all the tires to the p ... | |||||

| ... would need repair. It worked perfect prior to being parked, but after sitting unused for 20 years Im afraid the transmission will fail quickly, or just not work at all. This concern changes how I move forward with this project. If the transmission would function good for a couple of years, then I would later on replace or build it up in order to start an engine build once I save more cash. If the transmission has toasted itself by sitting, then my plan might include an LS engine and tranny swap right now, or wait a couple of years then do the LS swap. M ... | |||||
| Answer to: Sitting Car for 6 years. | 24Relevance | 5 years ago | ZLiteStar | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| If it's been sitting for 6 years, there's going to be some work and expense in getting it going again. First, I'd check Scotty's video on how to get a car running after it's been sitting, first from Scotty, second from Scotty, and one from Chris Fix. The tires are probably shot and not round after sitting that long, so if you drive it, you'll need to drive slowly. You'll also need a new battery just to get it started. You'll also need to change all the fluids, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, oil. Check the air filter and make sure you don't have an ... | |||||
| Answer to: How many miles is okay to drive a car in one sitting, can you over use a car? | 22Relevance | 4 years ago | Kaizen | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Assuming the car checks out, and the maintenance is up to date, the maximum a car can go in one sitting is a tank full of gas and as long as you can safely operate the vehicle. And as long as you are not actively abusing the car or pushing it to its limit. Granted, it is better for your engine and your sanity if your car is cruising on a highway as opposed to sitting in bumper to bumper traffic or city driving. Going too slow can potentially overheat your car, though not as common these days. And going too slow can drive you mad. In this case, maybe less ... | |||||

| There's not enough information. How long has it been sitting? For example, let's take the fuel tank. Has it been empty, or has fuel been spoiling, for years, corroding the tank? When was it last taken out on the road? What is the condition of a 30 year old suspension, radiator, engine, after all these years, especially if it has been sitting? And sitting, where? Outdoors, in a heated garage, in a barn? What's the condition of the transmission fluid, after all this time? (This is assuming that it's been sitting). When was the oil last changed? When were the ... | |||||

| Hi Scotty, I'm looking at a 2011 Toyota Venza AWD 6Cyl that has been sitting on a used auto lot for a year and a half. It has about 200,000 kms on it. I would definitely get it looked at by my mechanic if I was going to pull the trigger. What should I look at to get it checked out properly and is there a chance that permanent damage was done to the car by it sitting so long? The dealer wants $10,000 Canadian for it. thanks PS. Saw your show on Lewiston and your dad's station. I live in St. Catharines Ont. and go quite often to concerts at Lewiston Art ... | |||||
