We are finally number one! I guess people are wising up thanks to Scotty.

So I was taking a stroll through the Toyota dealer showroom and low and behold, they have a brand new Used Tesla for sale.

My guess is a Tesla owner got fed up with it and traded it in for a Toyota. There could be other reasons as well.

I don't see a question here.

Auto News: 3G networks will disappear this year - and that's bad news for your car:

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/16/3g-networks-shutting-down-in-2022-could-affect-your-cars-gps.html

So basically, features you paid for now become obsolete (if the manufacturer does not offer an upgrade).

Does anyone know if the aftermarket has or is working on solutions to upgrade your systems yourself?

My guess is there currently just isn't any demand.

You could always use a standalone GPS and free yourself from dependency on the car manufacturer providing updates. Some people elect to use a smartphone.

Yes, if someone owned one of the affected vehicles that would be a good way to go.

A Bugatti Chiron hypercar was seen driving on the German Autobahn at speeds approaching up to 259 mph!   Wow - imagine being on the highway and seeing that vehicle go past you.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/43949/bugatti-chirons-259-mph-autobahn-blast-condemned-by-german-government

i don't understand why they don't just go to a track

Probably because they can't drive so fast for so long there.

So I thought car related stuff that also informs people might be handy if Scotty wanted to mention it in his videos as well. Get the word out there a bit. I mean, if it wasn't for Scotty I'd still be driving a pile of junk GM Vauxhall van over here in the UK. And throwing money into a bottomless pit. Like this poor guy that bought a Mercedes hybrid here: https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1556002/Mercedes-Benz-car-new-battery-price-Auto-Trader-Knighton-Leicester

He bought the car for £27,000. It's now worth just under £13,000. And Mercedes want £15,000 just to replace the battery.

He said he bought it because he thinks Mercedes are so reliable: "I have always been a Mercedes customer and loved the cars they produce and we bought the car for its reliability."

More quotes:

"Any reasonable person wouldn't expect a car that costs £27,000 would have a battery that would die after eight years.

"It almost feels like mis-selling on Mercedes' part. Had we known this expense was possible at the outset, he would not have purchased it in the first place.

"This information is not readily available and I've only found people discussing it in online forums."

-See? If Scotty had more fans, and Mercedes need less, the world might be a better fairer place.

Edit: At the end Mercedes commented on another model (they didn't specify what car the guy had) but basically said it was the customer's fault:

"Without the background information, we are unable to comment on why the high voltage battery required replacement in this particular case."

"Outside influences can contribute to reduced battery life, for example, operating conditions of the car, accidents, repairs and general maintenance."

Hi Scotty,

Saw a video where you said report bad experience or issues, from almost 7 moths ago dealership crashes customer Ford Escape and denied responsibility.

Yesterday at my Auto 100 class I take at my college, I heard from my instructor that Hyundai and Kia dealer technicians are leaving because they had 6 hours to fix those problematic Theta engines and ONLY 6 hours. Do you know about this?

What a hilarious way to demonstrate why you should always avoid Chinese tires.

https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1570469/diesel-changes-audi-v6-engine-renewable-fuels-hvo

"The company has now approved many of its current six-cylinder diesel engines for use with the renewable fuel HVO - hydrotreated vegetable oil.

Hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) is a sustainable fuel that enables CO2 reductions of between 70 and 95 percent compared to fossil diesel."

If this was Toyota I would be a happy camper. I don't know anything at all about Audi engines, but I hear modern common rail diesels have a hard time with just moving over to veggie oil. I'm not even sure you can just have the old diesels "converted" with a kit, like the 1HZ 4.2L inline six Toyota engine in the landcruiser. That was indirect injection as well.

The point being that I'd like Audi to explain how they filtered the hydrotreated vegetable oil first, so it doesn''t clog everything up. And how much it will cost in comparison to regular diesel.

Because lets be honest: we can't have nice things. But if a company like Toyota made a reliable veggie diesel engine, I'd be all over it. It's too much of a simple solution though.

Bear in mind this is what Rudolf Diesel intended from day one. Right up until they probably killed him at least.

Edit: Plus you know they'd want to prevent you from using your own fuel. They don't even want you to repair your own car.

NJ man dies in crash — Tesla battery fire takes 2 hours to put out.

A New Jersey man died in a crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in New York during Saturday's snow when his Tesla slid off the road.

The crash ignited the car's lithium battery, requiring several thousand gallons of water to douse the flames.

I wonder if the unidentified flying tesla was on "auto pilot"!

https://www.newswars.com/wild-video-tesla-driver-launches-over-la-street-smashes-into-parked-cars/

Well, it's a stunt - so probably not.
-
Autopilot is adaptive cruise with steering is a good feature available on most cars including even basic Corollas.
-
FSD or "Full self driving" is probably what you mean, and it's not ready yet.
Here's a video of how their FSD (not autopilot) fails:
https://youtu.be/ByKE6RZjYes

Still pretty epic way to destroy one, gotta watch out for those U.F.T.s🤣🤣

Honda is against non-OEM printable accessories and parts?

And what does it mean for their long term for aftermarket parts availability?

Bias disclaimer: Personally I wouldn't buy a modern Honda for many different reasons

Spoiler
Reasons:
(including but not limited to: failing 9 speed transmissions shared with FIAT models, random body/paint issues, to major electronic faults as we saw both in a Scotty video and some posts on this forum, HR-V CVTs exploding and extended warranty coverage being quite strange IMO, some cars that can not warm up due to bad design, or those that can't maintain their operating temperature, but mainly how they treat their costumers - injectors allegedly not being covered under powertrain warranty, and that they warranty leaking compressors but not those that had an internal failure [all of this is from forum posts / TSBs])

The following article suggests that Honda has demanded to remove all printable parts that include the word "Honda".

As I see it, It's just an attack against owners' right to fix and fully enjoy their property.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/honda-orders-big-takedown-of-honda-related-3d-printing-models-from-maker-communities

IMO, this definitely set a very problematic precedent.

I get that in 2020 they made 1 million less cars then in their 2018 pack, and in 2021 the number declined further, additional -6% (does NOT look like Covid effects to me, total sales for all manufacturers increased by 4.5% in 2021 compared to 2020). I get that Hondas' European 2021 market share is down to under 0.7%, having negative growth of -34% and -10% in 2020 and 2021 respectively. And I fully get that their net income is down over 30% 2018 compared to 2021 with over 1.2 times more debt than equity -

I fully understand the drive to maximize profits a company in such a position would have but it still is quite questionable in my opinion that they chose to go after 3D models.

I hope this trend won't extend to aftermarket parts for Honda vehicles.

just remove the word "Honda" . What's the big deal?

@mmj It's not about the word "Honda", their intention probably is to remove all printable parts for their vehicles. First it's "Honda", later I assume it will be their other trademarks like "Civic", "Accord", (...) - I guess we'll see how this will develop.

then don't use any trademarks or copyrighted material. In these cases they're simply protecting their name and intellectual property. They have zero legal basis to control what you do with a 3D printer. I see no reason to panic here.

A Reliable Big Mercedes?

Mercedes has launched a new mini-van / Light commercial.

To me it seems like an attractive alternative to other small vans.

At this moment it's still unclear if it's going to be sold in North America.

This Merceds is based on a Renault-Nissan platform, has a Renault-Nissan engine, but unlike those - it's going to offer a dual-clutch automatic transmission (a very weird choice for a van, might significantly impact it's overall reliability).

https://youtu.be/hg656VTUq_U

AS I SEE IT, It probably will have the same fate as the Mercedes X-class, another Renault based passenger-commercial vehicle, they were good trucks - it's just that no one was interested in buying one.

Old Ford Maverick V8 Has Carburetor From A Lawn Mower, Gets 41 MPG

The 5.0-liter engine runs surprisingly well, if a tad underpowered.

New research, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, led by the University of Wisconsin–Madison confirms Singer's cartoon is dead on. The researchers found RFS increased corn prices by 30%, expanded corn cultivation by 8.7%, increased fertilizer use by 3 to 8%, degraded the water supply with chemical runoff, and "caused enough domestic land use change emissions such that the carbon intensity of corn ethanol produced under the RFS is no less than gasoline and likely at least 24% higher."1

“It basically reaffirms what many suspected, that corn ethanol is not a climate-friendly fuel and we need to accelerate the shift toward better renewable fuels, as well as make improvements in efficiency and electrification,” said scientist Tyler Lark, the lead author, in a press release.

https://www.treehugger.com/ethanol-worse-for-climate-than-gasoline-study-5219116

This is basically meaningless because CO2 is not pollution and is nothing to be concerned about and "climate change" is a natural phenomenon that we cannot control.

Class Action Kia / Hyundai oil burning

Hey Scotty.

In addition to all of yours, here's another good reason to avoid Hyundai products.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11039513/Hyundai-subsidiary-used-child-labor-Alabama-factory.html

Additional information: the company in question is "SMART Alabama LCC", a company who Hyundai has a majority in - they produce stamp metal body / structural panels for the Elantra, Sonata, and Santa Fe. Terrifying.

Have you seen the story about child labor in Bama?

"Acosta v. SMART Alabama, LLC et al" https://www.law360.com/employment-authority/cases/6241f123e90a2476a77863ea/articles

Have you seen

Yes we did. Please search before posting.

Funny is that when I searched Hyundai or Hyundai supplier, nothing was found.

@lacyrice2 Of course searching a broad term like "Hyundai" would bring up thousands of posts.
A specific phrase like "child labor Hyundai" brings up exactly what you posted:
https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/postid/229212/

I think you missed the part where I said "Nothing was found" with my search. If I had the ability to attach the screenshot, then maybe you'd understand. Besides, I was really sending it to Scotty since I had not seen any vids about it yet.

@lacyrice2
I didn't miss anything. You didn't type "child labor" into the search even though you mentioned it three times in your post. Of course "Hyundai or Hyundai supplier" won't find it.

love your channel. The link is something I read on yahoo in Jacksonville Florida. Can you explain this? Preferably like you always do for people who are inept with cars. What crap

Unfortunately, Kia does not bother to install immobilizers in their cars like other manufacturers do.

Chinese cars ace EuroNCAP safety tests as European manufacturers are falling behind.

Both the "ORA Funky Cat" and the "WEY Coffee 01" scored 5 star ratings,

While the BMW i4 and Opel Astra both scored only 4 safety starts.

Also interestingly, no GM/Ford products attempted to pass the updated safety test.

Both the "Good Cat" / "Funky Cat" and the "WEY Mocha" / "WEY Coffee 01" are built by GWM (Great Wall Motors).

On their earlier cars like the Great Wall C10, the only thing that didn't fall apart was the Mitsubishi powertrain... 😆

So it is going to be really interesting to see how these hold up -

If I had to guess, I'd say that they probably won't.
