I have a 2008 rav..4 I use as a fishing car. 112k hard miles. I change oil and and restore. It burns a quart per 3000 miles. I can live with that. Oil is cheap.

Stay away from 07-11 gen, even more specifically 07-09. The quality dropped. 06 is one of the best Camry's in  the last 15 years. 07-09 have oil burning issues starting from 70 80k miles, if your lucky, 100k miles. Piston ring issues etc. I would get an 05-06 Camry, or a 2014-2017, avoid 2007-2011.

Stay away from these models unless they have proof for the engine rebuilt in a Toyota dealer.

Good question. I have personal experience. It is a pain to deal with. The years this problem happened, the cars weren't even that well made they went from being made in Japan to US and interior quality was bad. I would get a 2005-2006, or 2012-2017 Camry. If you do get one, oil burning starts around 90 100k miles according to online complaints, but my friend had his rav4 start the issue at 60k miles. It cost's a ton of money to fix so you will just have to live with putting quarts and quarts of oil in. Or, take my advice, and avoid that generation of Toyota. Tens of years of Camry to pick from, don't pick specifically 2007-2009, and more vaguely : 2007-2011.

If you absolutely have to get the 2007-2011 gen of Camry, get a low mileage V6 one. DO NOT GET A 4 CYLINDER MODEL, you will regret not buying the previous generation which has better quality.

Didn't Toyota move to the 2AR 2.5L engine in 2010, which resolved the oil burning issue? If so, is there another reason to avoid 2010-2011 models of the Camry?

Yes. The 2010 did not have oil burning issues. The thing is, along with the engine issues, the 2007 generation brought low quality with it. The overall build quality was really bad compared to the 06 ones and they did not age well. This generation was from 2007-2011. For 7 grand, you can get a 2007 base model with lot's of miles and the interior is falling apart, or, for 6 grand, you can get a loaded 06 XLE V6 in almost new condition. The 2010-2011 costs more than the already bad 2007-2009. I would avoid that generation. Plus, you don't save much over the next generation, which is what I would look for.

The thing is the oil burning/piston issue generally starts between 70 and 110k miles, so you will be stuck with it. I already wrote another answer so check that out. Also,  the years affected are 2007-2009 Camry. I'm talking with experience and complaints through the internet. Scotty's son has the issue and just beats it up and adds oil as time goes on.
