02 subaru impreza 2.5 rs (automatic)

My car may have blown a headgasket. Is it really common for it to happen at 130,000 like they say.

Id also like to ask if youve ever had one you worked on that had a parasitic drain. If multiple was there a common type of drain? My boyfriend thinks it can be my remote start since its not supposed to have one in mine.

We have local mechanics but ive heard of people taking their cars there and finding new problems they didnt have before going there. That makes me worried to take my car there to get looked at.

Id love to hear your advice. Ive already bought a felpro gasket kit for my car and a timing belt. I will sadly need a new battery, any you would recommend

Subarus of that vintage were very prone to blow head gaskets due to a poor gasket design. You are fortunate that it lasted as long as it did. Cost of repair exceeds the value of the car if a mechanic does the work. If you or someone you know can do the labor then it's economically feasible.

You'd have to trace the parasitic drain. An aftermarket remote start would be a prime suspect but it could be anything on a 20-year-old car.
