Just got an 02 Tacoma 3.4L V6 with 85K miles. No codes on the Blue Driver. I live around Cleveland, OH, so I how should I keep it rust free; I've heard and seen good things about Fluid Film. Also, I have seen that the timing belt should be replaced at 90K miles, but what is the real limit on it?
You cannot keep it rust free. But you can help reduce the amount of rust.
Make sure to thoroughly wash the undercarriage after every winter. Clean all the mud and crud out of the nooks and crannies. Apple lube to moving parts like parking brake cables, spare tire hoists etc. Apply grease to zerk fittings at least every couple of oil changes.
I live in Minnesota and I wash mind once every 2 weeks in the winter.
About the timing belt, the engine is non-interference so if the belt brakes, does not ruin your engine. With that said, if you do not mind stranding in the middle of nowhere when it breaks, you can leave it alone and do not change it until it breaks.
