Hello,
I was wondering if I could get some insight about which used vehicle would generally be a better choice. The two vehicles I’m considering are:
2004 Acura TSX with a 2.4-Liter 4-Cyclinder 5-Speed Automatic with around 125k miles for around $6000 from a dealer
2006 Acura TL with a 3.2-Liter 6-Cyclinder 5-Speed Automatic with around 134k miles for around $6300 from a dealer.
Thank you!
Clarification: How many years and miles do you need it to last you?
At least 4 years, or say around 50k miles
Between those two, I would consider the 4 Cylinder TSX. Have your mechanic check the car before purchase.
Hey Yaser, thanks for the advice. So even if the car is from a big name franchise dealership, I should still have it checked out by another mechanic, correct?
Definitely and do not overpay for any car.
I would keep looking. You're buying from a dealer and they are asking too much with that many miles. Those two Acuras are going to have problems if you plan on keeping it long term.
Hey Kester, thanks for advice. I am curious though, what would you consider a reasonable price for those cars and their mileages? KBB has the prices for those models and year as in the green “Fair Market Range”.
Thanks!
Half of what they are offering. But I honestly wouldn't buy from a dealer because they rip you off.
Ah I gotcha, thank you!
Never buy anything from a dealer.
Ask if the TL had it's timing belt replaced and make them prove it, don't take their word for it. The maintencance guide says it should have been changed at 105k miles. It cost me about $1100 at a Honda dealer to replace the timing belt, spark plugs, water pump and belt tensioner on my '07 TL. Why change the water pump if nothing is wrong with it? Because the water pump is behind the timing belt and the labor is not much more if the belt is already off. It's a preventative measure. If the mechanic thinks the tensioner will last another 105k, then don't replace it.
Thanks for the advice jdavidm!
