- So I have a 2005 Dodge Magnum SXT 3.5L V6 176k bought it off my best friend whose dad had it preordered In 04. Needed tie rods done one day and decided if I’m doing some work I mine as well overhaul a majority of it. Basically replaced the whole front end with Moog parts minus the leaking rear main seal which isn’t worth the time to fix / more can of worms to open. But basically I’m at the point wherethe joys of seating the EGR tube (pain in the ass) resulted in me removing the plenum numerous times. Upon inspecting the plenum, it is completely covered in buildup. My pcv valve was spitting oil into it for who knows how long. But basically it’s a mess and I was seeing if there is any good products out there for cleaning it out? Not sure if I should sea foam it, soak it in gas, or use air intake spray, possibly some other product, or if I shouldn’t even waste my time with it? I’ve thought of using GUNK engine degreaser but the only concern I have is the plenum is completely plastic and some chems are super harsh on the material. I’ve replaced the old pcv valve with a Mopar one and I replaced the valve tube that was cracking towards the end to correct the problem.
Also in my obd app I keep running into an error on my purge flow monitor tid$84 (mid$3D) value .01526% Min should be .059514% Max 100%. I thought maybe the purge canister was bad or the egr? But if it was it would throw a code which it hasn’t yet. I noticed once in a while my gas tank wouldn’t let me put more than a dollar in without popping the pump or puking gas out the car even when empty, perhaps they are related or it’s a canister that needs replacing? Last of all the engine does run around 200-210degrees at idle warmed up. Is that about normal? It’ll increase once I’m on the throttle or dump down, possibly air in the system needing bleeding?
thanks anyone in response to my few questions, the dying breed of magnums is sometimes hard to find others with related problems to Q&A vs my Toyota 😟
Photo attached. Probably bad quality due to 1mb limit had to cram pics together
Cleaning plastic can be a real hassle you never know what's going to destroy the plastic so me what I do is I just get the buffing material and I just buff it off as good as I can maybe a little Dremel with a real nice light buffing pad to take off most of it
