2006 Hyundai Santa Fe, 168,000 miles, automatic transmission. This vehicle has power steering when you are moving down the road but the power steering no longer works when you slow down or stop. The entire power steering system has been replaced with two different racks, new lines, four different power steering pumps. It has been at our local car shop since May and they still are not able to figure it out. Are we missing something? Thanks so much for your time.

Well one you need to find a better mechanic there are gauges that can be put on power steering systems that only high level mechanics will have they can measure the pressure coming at each part of the system and figure out what's wrong they're obviously is something wrong and those idiots are just changing parts and not diagnosing anything you need a guy with pressure gauges

I had a problem with my 2011 santa fe. It's a very simple system. There is the pump, reservoir, rack and hoses. The fluid goes to the rack from the pump. The return from the rack goes to the reservoir. From the reservoir back to the pump. The reservoir purges air out of the system by letting air float to the top. The pump is always sucking from the bottom of the reservoir.   There is a screen at the bottom which can get clogged. You also must use the correct fluid. The so called universal fluid for asian cars sold at most auto stores does not work. I ended up buying the fluid from a nearby Kia dealer because they share these parts in common.

I agree with Scotty find another mechanic.
