Scotty!! Nobody can fix my problem with my 08 Accord 2.4. I bought it 1.5 years ago. The body has 245Kmiles but the motor 108K. The starter went out after 2 months so I replaced it with an OEM starter. Then, few months later P0339 (Intermittent issue with the crankshaft position sensor A circut). Since I'm 66 years old and on a fixed budget, I bought the sensor through Auto Zone and they said it was an OEM part. The car went in limp home mode. Towed to Honda Dealership in Joplin mo and told them to put the sensor in that I placed in the front seat. Great. 3 days later I go pick up the car. About 4 weeks later, same p0339 code upon starting..this always happens when I'm trying to start it and if it cranks too long...then the code comes on and limp home mode again. So the code came back because it took too long to crank. TOWED back to Honda dealership. They called and said it was the sensor I bought at Auto Zone that was faulty and that I needed to buy THEIR HONDA SENSOR for 350.00!!!! I don't have that kind of money so I begged and pleaded and got them down to 149.00 for the sensor and 200 labor (it's a 15 min job). FINE....whatever. Go pick the car back up and 6 weeks later SAME THING...SAME LONG crank and the p0339 code. TOWED back to them. They said they don't know why it keeps doing this. I asked if they updated the ECM with the TSB on this issue and they said they did. Cleared codes. I told them to change out the PGM-FI main relay and they did that for 35.00. Drove car home. 2 weeks later..SAME THING...SAME long crank and p0339 code and limp mode home. I drove 20 miles and hour for 15 miles to get it home and call the tow truck AGAIN. This was 2 days ago...car is still at the dealership and I haven't even talked to them about it because I can't get through on the phone..constant busy signal. PLEASE, SCOTTY, I KNOW you can figure this out!!!! I've never had problems with a Honda before.
I am ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!!!!!
Ms. Brenda
Well, I'd have to see it in person hook up my scan tool and look at live data of course. Personally I only use OEM sensors on those
No, if it wasn't the sensor I'd had to check the wiring and the computer system as problem in the computer system could do that too
Scotty, thank you for answering my question! That's what I was thinking, too! I left a note in my car when it was towed there to check the wiring and grounds! If it's the computer, I can't afford to buy another one so I have no idea what I'll do with my car if that's the case. I watch your videos sometimes ALL DAY LONG!! Don't ever retire! WE NEED YOU!
Gosh, I sure wish I could get my car to you but that's impossible since I'm in Kansas. Keep up the excellent work you do to help those of us who don't like being ripped off!! Learned so much from your videos!!
Scotty!! The dealership checked everything you told me and all was fine. Now, they're saying it looks like I have an aftermarket starter on my 08 Accord. I told them it's an OEM MITSUBA starter as I was told before I bought it. Isn't Mitsuba an OEM manufacturer? Now the dealer wants 935.00 to put one of their starters in!!!!! I don't have that kind of money!! I just had that starter installed almost 2 years ago. They say that starter is probably causing the P0339 code to keep coming back and putting it in limp mode. But they won't answer my question about MITSUBA being an OEM manufacturer and they won't answer me when I ask if they use Denso starters...????? I can get a Denso starter for around 200 but they won't answer me. They are texting now rather than calling. UGH. Scotty, help.

What are you talking about? By posting a new topic for this there is no context to connect it with your original post without remembering that post or checking your activity history. You can't reasonably expect people to do that. Also, for this reason and to keep all information about a particular car problem together it is a violation of forum rules to post multiple topics about the same problem. Please keep this in mind for the future. Thank you. (Topics merged.)
Additionally, Scotty does not usually return to topics he has already responded to.

You really should not be taking a 16-17 year-old car to a dealer for service or repairs. They are the most expensive option and frequently the worst, and many of them are prone to ripping people off.
It should not matter whether you have an aftermarket starter, the question is whether the starter is working. Any mechanic that knows what he or she is doing should be able to determine that very quickly. (If the engine is cranking the starter is working.)
From your original post it appears the engine in that car was replaced. That brings up questions about why that was done (lack of maintenance?), whether the exact same engine from the same year was installed, and whether anything was messed up during the engine transplant that is now rearing its head to cause problems.
Really what you need to do is find a good independent shop that can do a proper diagnosis and get the car to them. (You said you are in Kansas. The shop of youtube's "Car Wizard" - Omega Auto Clinic - is located in that state, in Newton. If you are anywhere near there you might want to check them out.)
@chucktobias , I hope I can answer your post here. I don't want to get into trouble. The reason I have to take it to the Honda Dealership is because every time it throws that p0339 code and goes into limp home mode..the code can not be cleared except by the Honda dealership. I don't have a scanner that can clear that code. I've checked in my area within 50 miles and no independent shop has the software to clear that code so I can drive it.
@msbrenda It's no trouble, was just letting you know that all information about your car issue should be kept together per forum rules, and the reason for that rule.
I'm pretty surprised that no independent shop in your area has a good enough scan tool for this. It's something any good mechanic should be able to do. You may want to consider widening your search. We're already seeing evidence that the dealer you took the car to is not competent and is attempting to rip you off.
I do apologize. I thought I put that under my original post but I am getting old and senile. The shop you mentioned in Newton, KS is 165 miles from me. I just told the Dealership to clear the P0339 code so the car will start and I'll come and get it. It will just have to sit in my driveway as I've spent SO much money on this and there is no more to put in it. Thank you
@msbrenda Sorry to hear about that, but at least you can get the vehicle out of there and keep that dealer from ripping you off for any more money. It's too bad you're so far away from Newton as Omega would be a great shop to get the car into. Unfortunately that is the only mechanic referral we have in Kansas.
