Lost on what to do on my 09 Chevy impala. 66k miles 3.9. Basically redid the whole front end because wheel was shaking like crazy and they told me at alignment shop I needed basically everything even wheel bearings and it was just a cupped tire. somewhere along the line the pump stopped circulating and then the rack started leaking so I had to do those as well. Flushed the fluid bled correctly car off then on lock to lock and now 2 pumps + the original are still not circulating. it also feels like the power steering works to go right but to the left it grinds and binds and the power steering pump or the rack whines kinda like if you go too far left when it’s jacked up lock to lock but it does it if you’re going slow and then try and turn left only. My thoughts are it could be the steering shaft but with the car in the air the wheel turns fine. I’m lost on what to do I don’t know how to diagnosis this. If it is the rack that would suck it wasn’t fun to do but I doubt it just because it’s so new and it turns fine. Anyone have ideas. I might have to take it in sadly but diagnosis sounds expensive af on this. It could be the shaft because I drove it for awhile where the wheel was shaking badly due to a cupped tire and I had to white knuckle to keep it straight. But what do you guys think? Help appreciated thank you. Also might have put the hoses to the rack backwards so it’s not pumping because of that but I’m not sure at this point.
Well realize that those are pretty junky cars to begin with. But if I were you I'd make sure you didn't put the hoses on backwards cuz that would screw up everything
You had a video where one made it 300k though Scotty 😅 thank you for the reply. Any idea though? It’s a brand new rack. The old one had the same issue yet my mechanic insists it might be the rack. He also said now the pump IS working but when I looked at it the fluid is just sitting there when idling you can’t see it move or anything so I really don’t know

Have you thought about testing the power steering system pressure to verify whether the pump is working properly?
