09 Matrix S- 5-Speed Man. - 150k - 2AZ-FE 2.4 ENGINE - Trying to minimize the burn!!!

Scotty and Crew,

I have the engine and it burns oil (no smoke) and I monitor oil levels almost daily, add when needed, and do 3K oil changes. So far, so good, runs fine and I still really love the Zippy Matrix - (just baby it)

I use 5-20 Valvoline Synthetic-blend oil.
I add about 2 Qts. between 3k oil changes.

A couple of questions for Scotty and the community.

1)  Can I switch to 5-20 Full Synthetic oil hoping to reduce the oil burn? Or stay with the blend?
2)  Might adding ATS Carbon Clean Fuel System Treatment (Scotty likes it) help reduce the oil burn or would it potentially increase oil burn?

I am keeping this Toyota as long as possible - so want to do anything (but rebuild the engine) to keep it going!

Thanks for the insights and any advice!  Stay well!

Nothing short of replacing the defective piston rings will substantially reduce the oil burning.

Switching to full synthetic and using ATS will do nothing to decrease your oil usage.  Get a new PCV valve -

And get a compression test to see how bad the ring wear is.
