Hi Scotty,

I'm from Australia and I have a Captiva 2010 LX petrol SUV, One morning starting the car, I noticed my odometer was reset to 0kms. before it was over 180,000kms (111,846 miles). I had to take my car in to get the timing chain replaced because it was skipping a tooth and I told my mechanic about the odo reading and he told me that something electric must've shorted because even the computer is reading the new odo and not the old odo. His been in the business for 30 years plus and also asked his fellow mechanics and no one has seen before. he said that if the odo was showing something different to the original reading the computer will tell the correct one, but he was shocked to find that the computer was reading it as a brand new car.

does this mean the computer in the car is about to die?

Thank You.

The PCM doesn't reset the odometer.

This sounds more like your odometer mode is displaying one of the "Trip" mileages (A or B).

Have you tried cycling the modes of the odometer display between vehicle mileage/Trip A/Trip B ?

Hi Jack, no it's not the Trip mileage. they work as normal.

Congratulations mate!

You’re now the proud owner of a brand new (reborn) Captiva..

Does the odometer stay at 0, even after driving?

the Odometer started at 0 and I done over 10,000Kms on it (6213 miles) and its reading like nothing happened. I guess you are right, I am a proud owner of a reborn C(r)aptiva. {black}

Crickey, I was reluctant to add the ‘r’, myself.. Anyway, rather than you spend sleepless nights over it, just add 180,000 kms to your present mileage & be done with it.

hey, now you can drive it awhile and then sell it as having really low miles! {black}:scared:
