Morning Scotty,
I’m the guy who had the 2012 Tundra that would start then stall I made a post about a few weeks ago. It drove me nuts for two weeks chasing codes and everything else under the sun that can make a car stall. it turns out I was overthinking it and it was all caused by a faulty battery. It tricked me big time. Turns out the battery was putting out inconsistent power. Every time I tested it it just happened to be within range, even my OBD scanner told me the battery was good when I used that and ran the test. the battery was a OEM Toyota battery that was 1 year old so I thought nothing of it. After trickle charging it and changing my MAF, the truck ran for a week before stalling again so it went to Toyota for diagnostics. The truck is new to me and after finding out it was my battery I’m thinking the previous owner had some battery issues and maybe fast charged it one too many times or used a jump pack that messed the battery up. I got a new OEM battery installed at the dealer under 84 month warranty and it’s been smooth sailing ever since. I thought you’d get a kick out of that. I work on industrial lead acid forklift batteries for a living and it still tricked me. Can’t win them all! All that being said, I must say Toyota’s customer service was amazing. They called me before they did anything to my truck and filled me in on everything as they went, showed me their fancy scanner data via video while it was at the shop and everything. Turns out the truck is in excellent condition internally even at 153k miles. They gave me a list of what they recommend having done to it and a price to go with each, all of which was reasonable for its mileage. Coolant flush and brake fluid replacement, injector clean etc., but they didn’t try to do any extra work then hand me a huge bill. The most honest dealer I’ve ever worked with. They’re expensive, but hey you pay hood money for a good mechanic. Shoutout to Koch 33 Toyota in Pennsylvania. Good people there.
Thanks for the update.
Your experience at the dealer is a rare one. Usually, you can't get away from them without losing you shirt, and pants in the process.
