I’ve had a sonata for quite some time. Bought it used with 60k miles. Engine blew at 80k and dealer swapped it with a used one that had 40k miles on it. I now have 150k on it and was wondering about the transmission after seeing your videos. Transmission shifts great and I don’t see any issues with it but was wondering about changing the transmission oil now. Should I just not worry about since it has 150k miles on it? If your still in Rhode Island I can meet up I only live about 1.5 hours away!
On another note I bought a 2016 Santa fe 2.0 turbo and that motor blew while driving on the highway at 82k miles! Stranded my wife and the car was smoking like it was about to catch fire. Was out of warranty at 80k but they changed the motor with a reman one and no more warranty. Drove it for a year and traded it before something else happened!

Given the mileage, your experiences with those vehicles, and the general lack of quality from Hyundai Motor Group products, I would honestly get rid of that vehicle in this red hot seller’s market. They replaced the engine with the same problematic one.

Well, you are caught between a rock and a hard place. Inspect the fluid first and then make a decision. Check the FAQ section of this forum for more information.
If I were you, I would get rid of that car sooner than later.

Scotty is all booked up.

Smart move. Do the same for the other car.
I don’t drive my car hard at all.
You should, at least once in a while. It's good for it.
It's the slow stop & go city driving that kills cars.
when looking at fluid I’m looking to make sure it is not burnt and still have somewhat of a red tint?
Make sure it's not full of clutch material (suspended black, dust size particles).
A good way to reveal this is to blot some fluid on some white cardstock (eg business card) and let it separate.
Used a oil hand transfer pump to pull some oil from the fill check plug side hole and put some on some coffee filters, yes I have an old coffee maker because I just like the taste better than my kcup, it looked good no clutch material just dark fluid.
I will just probably drain the oil change the filter and put the oil back in and call it done
Quick status update. Just replaced two quarts of trans fluid and checked to make sure it was at capacity. Driven the car now for several days and no issues. I’ll probably just do another two quarts in 30k if it lasts that long. Just hope it lasts long enough for car prices to drop which in my neck of the woods has started to a little bit.
Thanks for the feedback. The car runs great. Have no issues and it shifts flawlessly without any hiccups. I don’t drive my car hard at all. I’m that old guy driving miss daisy every hates because I drive 55 mph lol. I just drive it on the highway to work and back and I am in no rush to get to work or get back home. I literally set the cruise control 55-60 mph until I get get off the highway and back roads home. I do make sure I’m in the right line though and I do move around if it looks like I will slow down anyone so I don’t irritate others. The car is parked throughout the rest of the time. If I had to guess… at least 90% of the mileage is highways. I have a “lifetime warranty” I had purchased when I bought it on engine and transmission. Not sure if after some mileage it’s prorated, my guess it is lol. Anyways I will inspect the fluid this weekend and see. I’ve been looking though the faq in this forum about inspections but all I find is checking levels. So I assume when looking at fluid I’m looking to make sure it is not burnt and still have somewhat of a red tint?
Thanks,
George
