‘18 Subaru CVT to change or not change the oil?

Hey Scotty!

I LOVE your no nonsense and honest advice, thank you for keeping your show going after the move! I’ve got a used 2018 Subaru Impreza 2.0 premium auto,  bought it around 50,000 this year. Should I have the CVT transmission fluid changed or not? The car drives super smooth, but I’m not sure if it’s been changed ever, no service records for the car, and I’ve read differing things about the best time to change if at all!

Thank you!

Chris

Scotty recommends changing every 30-40K for CVT. Change it, don’t flush, only drain and fill.

Definitely change it. Do not believe the Manufacturer lifetime fluid BS.

Change it soon. 50K is around the max you should go between changes on CVT fluid.

Change it.

Subaru of Japan states in their service manuals and CVT fluid change every 30'000 miles.

Don't listen to Subaru USA.

They say it's a sealed lifetime unit.

Many Subaru owners with CVT who have changed the fluid regularly have reported no problems.
