Hey Scotty, we watch you alot and we recently got our 1949 packard back from a mechanic who originally quoted 6k for hydronic breaking system and new wiring harness and sockets and bulbs.

All installed and only half the lights work. The dash lights don't work, the blower stopped working and now the generator is bad. A few people said they wired the car with a positive ground and it should have been negative, other say the opposite.  In the mean time we don't know which is correct. The car only has around 43,000 miles on it ( I think) it's a good straight 8 engine. They also replaced the external transmission leaver arm at a cost of almost 2k. We picked up our car with a 11, 430$ bill.  It's been a sad nightmare.    Can you advise which is correct. Should the wiring be to a negative ground or positive ground d? And if it is wrong could that have burned up the blower and generator?

The second sad note is they allowed the car to be hit while they had it , we have to fight to have them repair that or give us a refund. You did a youtube on a other woman who got ripped off and they magically refunded her money...wondering if you'd like to youtube our old tank of a car. They actually tried to say when they lift old cars on the lift they can wrack and unsquare and that's why the passenger door doesn't open anymore, even those there's a new scratch and tire rubber residue still on the fender.  In other words, they are a crappie shop.  But mainly are two questions above is what we can't find a definite answer to.

Sounds like a real nightmare. Packard changed to negative ground in 1956 (the last year for real Packards), so if stock your '49 should be 6V positive ground. Don't forget that generators need to be polarized any time that they or the battery are disconnected.

Being pretty much a specialty, for in-depth information on that car you might want to look into a forum devoted to it.
