1988 Toyota Truck is bucking/hopping when I drive it

Hello. 1988 Toyota pick-up. 161K miles; 4 speed; 22r; carb.

Truck backfires at higher speeds and bucks intermittently, especially when going uphill.

Have added Techron, b-12 chemtool and seafoam to gas tank before fillup. sprayed carb cleaner extensively.

My next try is drain and fill gear oil from tranny and differential.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Unless your truck is turning into a kangaroo, I’d start with changing the fuel filter & pressure testing your fuel pump.

Sounds like fuel starvation under load. Think fuel filter/fuel pump.

On those old 22R's I think the fuel filter is beneath the bed on the passenger side between the back of the cab and the fuel fill door.

Pump is up on the front of the engine passenger side.

If it's a 22R with a carb, the fuel filter is in a spring clip in the engine compartment on the passenger side fender.
