Future Car Purchase - Toyota Camry

Hello, everyone! I’m new to the forum, so I look forward to meeting new people and learning a ton. I apologize if I’m slow to respond. Anyways, I’ve been looking at cars for awhile in hopes of possibly purchasing one in the future (4-5 years). I really like the looks and functionality of the 2018-2019 Toyota Camry XSE. However, I’ve heard there are issues with the transmission such as: it hunts for gears, it’s very touchy, etc. Now, I’ve heard that there was a possible Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) fix that should make the transmission perform better, but does anyone know if this has actually helped? I know it’s a little to early to tell, but does anyone think this would be a good vehicle to consider. Furthermore, would it be better to consider the I4 or V6 engine option.

The best option is a 4 cylinder and the transmission issues were only for 2018 they mostly solved it by 2019.

Oh okay that’s really good to hear! To be honest I don’t necessarily need a lot of power anyways, so the I4 is great plus more fuel efficiency!

I am interested in the answer to this one myself.

I’m glad to hear that! I’ve gotten very good responses that I think you’ll be happy with too!

The latest generation of Camry came out in 2017. And you mentioned 2018-2019 model years.

General advice: if you do not want to be a guinea pig when it comes to issues revealing, do not buy first years of a generation. Wait at least 3 years if you wanf some perfection. The most perfected ade ussualy last 2 years of a generation. I suppose that will be 2021-2022 or 2022-2023 since Toyota changes generations every 5 or 6 years.

Good luck!

In the United States the latest generation came out in 2018, and the 2018 had transmission issues, while the 2019 model year had those issues fixed.

Hello, GT! Thank you so much for all the advice I’ll definitely be waiting so I can save up money and avoid being a guinea pig. That’s neat, I didn’t know the last two years of a generation are the most perfected but that makes sense. I’ll keep everyone’s advice in mind. Thank you lots!

You are welcome
