trouble filling a replacement transmission

Scotty, bought this van with no tranny in it. I, like you, was a mechanic forever and have replaced many. So I ordered a new tranny that the manual called for. I installed it, no problem, when going to add the tranny fluid that the manual called for and the Tranny rebuild place I bought it from also gave me their instructions so as to not void my 2 yr warranty. Scotty, starting to add the fluid and following their directions, I am not done adding and the stick is reading a bit over full! I have never run into this!. So I shifted it thru gears, nothing different with the level. Let it sit overnight, no difference. I do not want to destroy this new tranny but I also cannot fit anymore fluid in according to the dip stick. What would you do in this case?? Have you or anyone else here run into this, I need a fix now. Thanks Scotty!

how much was left over?

When in Drive gear, do you feel torque on the wheels when lightly pressing the accelerator?

Have you tried taking it for a quick, careful drive around the block?

I imagine that the torque converter needs to fill up properly, and there's bubbles in the cooler and lines that need to be worked out. (check lines are hooked up in the correct direction)

You could also double check that you installed the filter (which acts as a pickup) properly and the seal is in there (not double stacked) and seated all the way.

I'm not sure if you're using a new dipstick or the old one, but maybe the pans have a slightly different depth?
