It's my mom's car which she only drives occasionally. Roughly 3k a year

Original owner 94k Needs a new Tranny-  Good price or not?

$2500 for a rebuild of the original transmission and it comes with a 1-year warranty

or

$2500 for a remanufactured from Japan and it comes with a 6-month warranty

All opinions appreciated

I don't think I'd put that kind of money into a 30-year-old Camry. There are so many other things waiting to go wrong on a car that old. Of course on the other hand you're not going to be able to replace the car for that kind of money.

There's not really enough information here. If yours is rebuilt would that be at a local shop or will it be sent out to a rebuilder like Jasper? Is the Japanese option a Toyota factory remanufactured transmission?

This would be a Toyota factory-remanufactured transmission.
or
If rebuilt it would be by the mechanic she uses transmission specialist

I would go with the Toyota factory rebuild. Per Scotty a large number of transmission shop rebuilds go sour.

93 Camry Transmission

Camry needs a new tranny. I know rebuilt transmissions according to this site tend to fail more than a remanufactured one. Was wondering what one's opinion would be on a used one coming from Japan vs the rebuild of the original? Or, should I only look to get a remanufactured one? Was told after 60k autos are retired in Japan due to them not having any emissions standards. Is any of this true? What should I do?

The laws in Japan make it difficult and expensive to keep cars on the road for many years so many late model Japanese vehicles get parted out and the parts sold in other countries. However you have to be careful of the differences between Japanese market vehicles and the ones sold in your own country. They are not always compatible and some custom fabrication may be required.

You're talking about a 30-year-old car. The labor alone to install a replacement transmission is going to be more than the car is worth unless you plan to install it yourself. Finding a good used transmission for it even from Japan would be a challenge.
