Hello, I have a question about if I should purchase this car or not.
There is a 1995 Lexus LS400 4.0 L V8 with 239,000 miles on it that one of my family relatives have just posted for sale. He has the car posted for sale at $1,500 but will personally sell it to me for $500.
Now this car is in nice condition, all of the leather seats in it are in good condition, the body has very few scratches on it. However, the car has been sitting for a year and a half, maybe two years. He said he let the car sit because he had a lot of other cars to use as a daily driver and didn't really become interested in the Lexus anymore. I test driven it recently and everything seems to be running fine but it needs rear sway bar links, a compressor to get the air conditioning working again, and all four struts replaced which I'm not to worried about since they can be still used for now. Soon before the car was left to sit, all of the brakes were replaced, new tires were put on it, and the timing belt was replaced at 211,000 miles.
My question is, is it worth buying? I am interested in buying this Lexus because just recently, I hit a deer with my 2006 Lincoln zephyr. The car still runs and drives fine but what is wanting me to get another car is the fact that my Lincoln has a bashed in front end.
Any answers are very much appreciated!
I have a feeling the repair bill is going to add up quickly. Before you buy, do some research on part costs, because I wouldn't sink too much money into it. That money would be better spent on a fresher car.
The only thing that matters most is the sway bar links which he already has, he just hasn't put it on the car yet. The air conditioning doesn't have to be fixed since I can just use the windows and the struts are still in usable condition.
If you plan to use it as your daily driver, I’d think twice as Joe & Bruce suggested.
However, as a stop gap car, sure!
Don't buy if you are planning to keep it for a long time... Do buy cause that is a super good deal on a car, for me at least. I'd buy it and full send it. Wouldn't even worry about the struts unless they are in hella bad condition haha! Side note: car will probably drink gas if you care about mpgs
True, I probably would want it to at least last a year or so.
It's going to need a lot of repairs being that its 26 years old and it's a v8. But, they are pretty reliable cars, though.
