Hello I have a 1996 v6 mustang and it only goes into reverse, I checked the transmission fluid while cold and it was filled up to the hot temp line while cold by the previous owner. I checked all the gears and the only one that work are park and reverse, 1st 2nd and drive will not work at all and the car just idles and stays put. I checked under the car and found at the back of the transmission where I think the speed sensor is, the connector was cut at the wires from something and the wires where crack and in not too good shape. I got a new wiring harness harness and hoping for the best. do you think my trans is junk or repairable?

I would say its probably junk but also check your fuses I have see other things that blew a fuse and made it so you were stuck in one forward gear there maybbe one in your car that blows and you lose all forward gears. Keep in mind im not a moderator just trying to help.
For my experience it would need a total rebuild something's wrong around The sun gear probably but it would require a total rebuild
With a 96 you're going to have a hard time even finding another working transmission to swap out on this car. Looks like its too old and damaged not going to be worth fixing.
