1998 automatic chevy blazer approximately 180k miles. I have not had the car scanned for codes but there is no check engine light.
It takes a long time for this car to warm up and if you take it out before it's warmed the car shakes violently but only while accelerating. Once the car is warmed up this isn't an issue but it takes about 40 minutes to warm up.
Sounds like the thermostat may be stuck open. I cant remember if that trips a code or not. If its the straight 6 its a pain in the butt to get to. I dont know what engines were in the 98
Maybe the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) Sensor or its wiring is defective.
Because even if the engine were actually "taking 40 minutes to warm up", why would it run so poorly?
The computer is able to adjust the air/fuel mixture to make a cold engine run right during warm up.
It seems your Blazer's computer doesn't know the actual engine temperature.
