Hello I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero sport 3.0 automatic it's shakes and got told by my mechanic it's only running on 4 cylinders instead of all 6 I can feel all 6 cylinders running when I drive because the car starts off slow then the rpms jump abit and it starts moving quicker I changed the spark plugs and wires still no change, what could be the cause of this issue?
It's got 208k miles
From what I understand, it's impossible for that to only run on 4 out of 6 cylinders.
Start with a different mechanic...
For the shaking, check your air filter, then look for vacuum leaks. If that doesn't fix it, try cleaning the throttle, see "make your car run better with a little spray cleaner" on youtube.
I'm pretty sure that car has a distributor, so try changing that too. You might be able to find a brand new complete assembly with the cap and rotor.
It doesn't use a distributor just wires and coil packs but those are all good but I've tooken it to 3 mechanics and they said the same thing about my car that it's only running on 4 cylinders
Does it shake in all gears? when idling? accelerating? coasting?
It just shakes when I'm not moving once the car starts moving it stops shaking
ok not moving... Just in 'D'? What about P & N ?
It's shakes in every gear It pretty much just shakes when it's not moving once the car is rolling the shaking stops
the mechanics are probably right then. Read the misfire page in our FAQ.
Oh okay, I will check it out
