First question is pretty simple, historically is there a difference in reliability when it comes to straight engines vs v-shaped engines. Second question, who makes better engines Honda or Toyota? Now of course they are both going to have their highs and lows, but when comparing the best engine from Honda to the best engine from Toyota which is more reliable?
You mean in their current line-up, or most reliable of all time? Because you'll get a variety of opinions on that.
On Toyota vs. Honda, see below for some insight: it’s not so simple, but the discussion we had before on this was very good.

I'm going with Honda on that one. But some will say Toyota, and I don't begrudge them for that.
If you pick the best of both, I think you'll find the quality is very similar and both surpass other offerings by a longshot.
I like the Honda engines because they tend to be a little sportier than Toyota's. But Toyota makes a very good engine too.
And some will say Mazda. 🙂
That's true.
Both are known for good engines. It really depends which two specific engines are compared to see who wins.
