Hey Scotty,
I recently bought a 1998 GMC Suburban K1500 with 203,000 miles. The transmission has no reverse, but otherwise the vehicle runs great. I'm not sure if it has the 4L60E or 4L80E transmission. What are your thoughts?
I will add that it's not for an everyday driver, it's just to fetch building materials and firewood when I need i
Clarification: The 1500-series has the 4L60 automatic transmission, whereas the 2500-series (along with the 1500-series with the 6.5L turbo diesel) has the 4L80 transmission.
Just make sure you park where you don’t need to back up.
What's there to say? Parking must be a PITA.
genius!
now use it for a 3-point turn
LOL I was just about to post this. It is genius, and if it works then heck who needs reverse gear??
Hey, it’s $200, which is half the price of my $400 scan tool. What is there to say? Don’t expect much, but at least it’s not your daily driver.
If the reverse is gone the drive is gonna fail soon. Price out a used tranny swap.
Weather has been crappy here lately and since it's parked on dirt- haven't been able to jack it up and see which transmission it has. I do plan on rebuilding the tranny over this winter.
Alabama mosquitos are awful and so is the humidity in the summer.
Good salvage 4l60s should be relatively easy to find, and not too expensive to install. As long as the motor is ok, I’d think it’s worth it.
.....seriously how are you gonna reverse if got stuck
