I have a 2000 Lexus ES with 191,000 miles. The car's running lights sometimes won't turn off, which of course runs the battery down. Sometimes the running lights do turn off, but even then, the battery runs down, just at a slower pace. The car has the original alternator, no other known electrical problems, and I put in a brand-new battery two months ago. I took the car to an independent mechanic since we don't have a Lexus dealer in our town and he said he couldn't find the problem. I live just outside Clarksville, and the nearest Lexus dealer is in Nashville. What are some possible causes of this problem and how expensive would it be to fix the car?

Generally that just means the headlight switch isn't working and needs replacing
Thanks, Scotty. The independent mechanic says he thinks the switch is fine but didn't try replacing it, so that's the next step. My dad thinks the wrong bulbs are in the running light and are preventing the switch from operating them, so we'll try replacing those, too.
