Hello,
I have an e38 from 2001, it's throwing the p0491 code and in the first few minutes it sounds like a crazy vacuum or belt. then it quiets down once the car warms up. Is this just the secondary air pump that needs to be replaced? Should I also replace the air valve and the hose connected to it? I'm just throwing ideas up in the air. Also how bad is this? Is this something I need to fix right away? Can I drive it at all until it gets fixed? What else should I check/replace while doing this job to help the overall system?

You might have to get this repaired right now. Your car may have a leak.
