Hi. I got a 2001 Chevy Silverado with the 4.8 4x4. Well im having a issue. When I turn the wheel in park at idle the battery gauge drops below 14 volts and truck try’s to stall. Well the other day I was driving and went to make a turn and my truck stalled usually I tap the gas pedal to keep the rpms up so the volts will stay up. I bought a brand new alternator and battery and still having the same issues.

you have a failing power steering pump or valve.

the pump is slowing down all the accessories on the belt system, so it's possible you didn't need a new alternator and battery

Thank you @mountainmanjoe. I will definitely check on ordering a new one.

For starters, steering the wheel while you are in park is never a good idea. It stresses out and wears your rack, strut mounts, bushings, joints, tires, etc, and seems rather pointless. Someone else will have to help you out with the stalling but I just wanted to make sure you knew there is no good reason to turn the wheel in park. Maybe worn components from doing this could be causing stress in the power steering pump like MMJ states, but I doubt it. It's probably just a worn out pump.

Yeah I know it’s hard on it while In idling but I was trying to figure out what was causing it. Like when I would go to back out into my driveway I would start cutting the wheel without tapping the gas pedal and it would try to stall but mountainmanjoe told me what is it buts thanks for your concern

Mountainmanjoe has the answer.  Power steering pump is going out and putting a large strain on the motor.  Sort of like turning on the ac and loosing power in a car with a small engine.
