Hey Scotty !
What do you think about buying a 2001 Sierra 1500 4x4 with the 4.8 engine in it ? I know you're not a Big Fan of those trucks but these years are quite better from what you say. The truck has 110 000 Kilometers, rust free & the car resaler asking 8 000$ CAD, I know it's not cheap . .
Thanks Scotty !
We bought a used 2002 Tahoe 4x4 ($5,500 US in 2011) with the 5.3, started at 185k miles and sold it several years later when needs changed at 240k miles. Changed all the fluids, even the "forgotten" fluids, updated the shocks and it served us well. Pickup and SUV's of that time were very similar mechanically. The one you're looking at has low mileage, but it's now 20 yrs old and has the smaller engine. It might be a good buy if you have it checked out by a trusty mechanic. But; I think the asking price is a bit high, but then who knows with these crazy vehicle prices in the pandemic time we're in right now.
Ya, those trucks were pretty well made but I would offer maybe 6000-6500 CAD. Also, have a mechanic check it out especially the transmission. Otherwise, with that low mileage, there is still some good life lest in that truck.
The Silverado/GMC 1500 trucks were fairly solid and reliable in that generation (1999-2006). And the one you are looking at has 110,000 km or ~68,000 miles (!!) which is nothing especially one that old. See below at 3:05 from Master Mechanic The Car Wizard
