Hi scotty, I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima, it currently has about 182k miles on it and is an automatic transmission, I am the second owner I got it for 3k when it had 130kmiles on it I've had it for 4 years and have upgraded the head light housing units, replaced the alternator, power steering hose, driver's side rear caliper,. All rotors and breaks and steering and alternator belt in the front. As of right now I believe that the issues the car has is.... The muffler is kind of rised in half, needs shocks and struts, steering belt squeeling, the tensioner pulley broke, I have to replace tensioner pulley and alternator and steering belt, and repair a couple small rush spots., There are currently a light shaking/vibration that is mildly aggressive when lightly breaking. So I'm thinking I might need to replace the lower control arms and ball joints, tore rods and possibly re do the rotors and breaks and tires and alignment. This is just what I'm guessing based on what I've been looking up online do you think that is the issue do you think this is even worth putting money into at 182k miles I said that is a mechanic and he said that he could tell that my engine had a mild vibration as if it wasn't going to be a good car long term that I should think about with something else I also just feel like he's lazy so I don't know but should I not repair my car at all should I fix my car and try and do it myself or should I just try and sell it as is and get something else. If I were to get something else I would like to get an enthusiast car that is rear-wheel drive with room for stuff to transport but not necessarily a hatchback I definitely look for reliability and I want to be able to modify it What would you recommend I feel like a 350Z is too small I definitely like the old school JDM I'm thinking maybe BMW E36 or a Genesis coupe any thoughts What should I do I'm lost.
1. Continue driving your Maxima till the wheels fall off, with minimum required maintenance.
2. When it does finally break, look for a good used Lexus.
Good luck!
Life is short. Get what you want, as long as you can afford it. But know that vehicle prices, new and used, are inflated in 2021. "Cars are the new toilet paper," according to The Detroit Free Press."
