What losses to a car's value with a transmission problem could I expect?

Hi all,

In my last post, my 2003 Lincoln Town car Exec. has been plagued with transmission issues. Since then, I had it checked out and it was confirmed my transmission is definitely going out. It's still drivable now, but I don't know how much longer it has. When selling the vehicle, how much can I expect to lose from the initial cost? I don't have an idea at what to price it at since I want to make it fair for both sides and I do not want to hide the issue for the next owner to deal with. {black}:idontknow: I'm located in SoCal, LA County.

Example:

Purchased for $6,000 w/ 77K miles

Selling for ??? w/ 82.5K miles

Thank you kindly in advance,

Just

I think you might get $1,000 for it. Worth a shot.

Someone who's mechanically inclined can get a cheap car out of it.

A car that old whose transmission is going out is pretty much scrap value at this point. It's most likely gonna cost more than the car is worth to put in a remanufactured transmission if you're paying a mechanic to install it. https://streetsmarttransmission.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwYSwBhDcARIsAOyL0fhfdV0-iZeyvLhwRJ3cb6ehbfmc0vJmrxfBq4CWFCQbUD8W9Ax_Y4caAp_NEALw_wcB

That's just for installing it. I found a couple remanufacturing locations and they averaged around $2200, so at least $3,000.

Got it, thank you kindly.

No problem, happy to help! 🙂
