Santa Fe 2012 Second Generation Diesel AT 2.2 CRDI - Transmission problems

Hi

I have a Santa FE 2012 Diesel 2.2 CRDI with a 6 speed Torque convertor. It has about 56000 miles on the odo. Last few days, I am facing a peculiar problem - in cold start the car shifts easily into R and D and drives smoothly. However, after even 10-15 minutes of driving the car doesnt move from D to R or P. It moves to N easily. If I press the Shift Lock then the gears move and the vehicle drives smoothly.

In fact the first time, I faced this problem I was 250 miles from home and the local Hyundai dealership told me that the Transmission was fine and the problem was a failed brake switch. I then drove 250 miles home and got the brake switch changed but the problem persists. The local Hyundai service centre is not helping me in changing the fluid and giving me the standard line that it is "sealed for life".  Kindly suggest in addition to transmission oil change, what else should I try.

With gratitude

Try an independent mechanic who would be willing to change your transmission fluid and see if that helps. (Other than that you would need a transmission expert to diagnose the issue using a fancy scan tool.) There's really no reason to bring a 13-year-old vehicle to the dealer for service.

@chucktobias Thanks.
