I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla that I hate to let go of. I was driving and heard a knocking noise so I pulled over. When I cranked it again and tried to pull out the car kept shutting off. I could hardly get it out of the road. I kept trying to make it across to pull over and it kept shutting down. Had to have it towed. It cranks now and idles but haven’t moved it or anything. My dad said a rod knock or something broke off in the engine? Just getting more opinions before I give her to the junkyard. I really do love this car. Any ideas If it is in fact rod knock? Prior to this I had a multiple misfire code and cylinder 4 misfire code. I replaced cylinder 4 spark and coil pack prior after seeing the code. Also had the oil leak fixed two months ago before it broke down.

If you want to keep the car, find an engine from junkyard and replace it.
Have a mechanic look at it. Hard to tell in the video but that sounds higher up in the engine valvetrain to me.
