Hi Scott big fan. I have a 2002 Honda accord ex 4 cylinder sedan 178,000 Manuel transmission, and I have couple of questions. I’ve gotten check for my car consuming bunch of oil it consume 5w-20 but from recommendation from my mechanic he said I have to rebuilt my engine but for now I have to used 10w-40 and a engine stabilizer from Lucas oil. For two weeks I haven’t had any issues. This week I’ve noticed that my oil level in the morning like you said to check but then. Wait for 5 minutes but notice that the oil level is getting low but going toward afternoon I drive to a different city 10 minutes from where I live. Ive stop 5 minutes later checked it and the oil level is normal. My question is that if it happens tomorrow that same issue where the oil level is mid to low do I add more oil?

Okay now you have to check they all the same all the time on a flat service shut the car off. Wait 5 minutes for it to drain. If you find that sometimes it is higher and sometimes it is lower. That doesn't make any sense at all unless something is filling it up such as you're losing coolant and that helps fill it up cuz your head gasket is blowing. The level would not change after the car sits 5 minutes unless you have some other problem. My advice is to pull out a couple spark plugs and if they're covered in burnt carbon and are black, you're burning oil and the engine piston rings are probably worn out.

@scottykilmer it does have a bad piston problem scott and I just recently got that news like I said it was a month ago but could I drive it still until November and when it has dirty oil like not to dark a little bit could I still continue to drive it but keep looking at the oil level

Scotty does not usually revisit topics he has already answered.

You can certainly keep driving a car with a dying engine ("bad piston problem") if you want to, but be aware it might crater on you at any time regardless of whether you keep up with the oil consumption.
