Hello. Im looking to buy a truck and I've decided that I want a Tacoma. I found a 2002 with 250k miles. Its got an access cab with a 6ft bed. The truck looks pretty clean on the outside and well taken care of. But i have yet to see the inside of it. Its a private seller who wants $6,500 for it. I figure I could get him down to $5k or maybe even a little less. I still havent inspected it, so I'm not sure exactly what condition it is in. But if its in good condition and everything looks good, would it be worth it for $5k. My gut is telling me that is a little high still. Thanks.
I would jump on that. That is pennies by Tacoma standards believe it or not. Clearly the private seller has no idea how much his truck is worth.
Make sure it doesn't have frame-rot...Tacoma's had a major issue with frames rusting out, the affected years were from 1995-2004. If it does walk away.
If the frame is solid and all else checks out, then $5k or less is a good deal.
At $5k it would be a decent deal if the truck can pass a mechanical inspection and there is no frame rust.
You can get a 2002 tundra with 150k miles for $6.5k. But, Tacoma's are really expensive. I think if you can get it for 5k it might be ok, but tacoma's are not good for work if you wanted to use it for that. They are just reliable. Nothing more. Nothing less. If it's in good condition, has no frame rust, is 4wd, and a v6, I would probably put in an offer if I were you.
