Hi Scotty.

I have a 2003 VW Citi Golf 1.4 with 145000km on the clock. Just baught it a few days ago with no problems whatsoever. The car is in incumelate condition with everything in tact. I've decided to do a full service, ie fuel, air, oil filter, spark plugs and oil. I did however check the manual for the correct parts and oil velocity.

So after the service, the oil light came on and some engine noice which sounds like lifters. This was not the case before the service. After that, I got a new oil pump changed and the oil sender units replaced. Still there's a engine noice, oil light on and low oil pressure. What else am I missing, please help.

It's possible the seller had put a heavy oil in the engine to temporarily mask the oil pressure problem. What is your actual oil pressure, as measured with a mechanical gauge?

That is an old trick that some sellers (especially bottom-rung used car dealers) still use to conceal engine faults. Although not a good thing to do with modern engines that have variable valve timing, all an unscrupulous seller would care about is the engine lasting long enough to separate you from your money.

You could try a different oil filter in case the one you installed is causing an oil pressure problem.

Hi Chuck Tobias.

Thank you very much for the information given. The pressure I've gotten from top was 15psi. Also, I will get a lower grade oil today as well as a new oil filter and take it from there. Will update you with the results. What is the correct oil grade for this particular model? Maybe a SAE30, we don't have much cold temperature here, so that won't be a problem.

Check your owner's manual for the correct oil weight, or it may be on the oil cap. Owner's manuals can be found online if you don't have one. If the engine has variable valve timing you definitely need to use the oil specified by the manufacturer.

Thank you very much for the prompt response and advise. Finally had the problem fixed. It was the oil filter supplied by a "trusted" actually well known parts supplier named GOLDWAGEN who was so clever to give me the incorrect oil filter. The one they gave had some kind of pressure plate inside the filter, which ended up supplying little to no oil to the engine. Got a new filter and the car is back on track with no noise and oil light went off as soon as we started the car.

Thank you.
