When I first start the vehicle for about a second or 2 I hear a clattering but goes right away. I've lost faith in my regular mechanic and I'm not having much luck finding a good one. Any ideas on what I'm needing to fix?
They often have problems with the timing chain tensioners or worn timing chains or relatively expensive repair but many people will drive them a long time as long as the noise goes away because the job can often be more than the car is worth once you start rebuilding engines unless you do the whole job it's like putting a Band-Aid on a large wound
@scottykilmer
I should have given a little more info, sorry.. I had the timing belt replaced right after I bought it in September. And I had to take it back to my mechanic to re-time the engine because it was sounded like it had spark knock on acceleration. I had to take it back twice for the same sound actually. It was one of the things that made me lose faith in my mechanic. The first time I took it back he just said the timing was off. The 2nd time he was saying there must be something out of line with the distributor. It really sounded like he had no idea what was going on with it. And he told me he timed it by ear but he couldn't time it with a timing light correctly. It all sounded like I was getting smoke blow up my butt, and he's trying to cover for poorly done work. So after hearing what you've said my search is on to find a reliable mechanic to see what can be done about it. Thanks Scotty!
