I have a 2004 chevy Tahoe with 81k miles in great condition but recently I've been having some scary moments with my brakes. They have randomly stiffened up on my to the point where I have to put 15-30lbs of force on my brakes because they get that stiff(the car still brakes it just gets scary as if im driving a semi truck braking down hill). This usually happens after 20 mins of driving consistently although it hasnt happened for a week or two now. I took it into a mechanic shop and they said it's likely the brake booster and apparently it required them to change something with the power steering pump which I'm skeptical about ($1800 job). should i also change the master cylinder? I was curious to know if this was the issue and if it is can I do the brake booster job myself and would anyone recommend anything.
If anyone can offer some good advice I need to get it safe for the road by Tuesday. Thank you!
You vehicle's brakes have hydraulic assist. The power steering pump provides pressure for the brake assist system.

Do not make multiple posts for the same problem please. (per our rules are posted on the front page).
Be patient and wait a couple of days as it may take some time to get a response. Thanks.
