2004 F-150 transmission bucking

Hello, my F-150 transmission has started bucking.  When I'm in overdrive around 55 MPH it acted up twice so far. The best way to describe it is it bucks two times in a row very quickly and then seems to operate normally.  Out of overdrive I haven't experienced it as of yet at the same speed.  It does it on the same stretch of road going up a slight grade at the stated speed when I assume the trans downshifts.

The fluid is red, doesn't give off a burnt odor, doesn't appear dirty and within the hot range after being driven.

Thanks in advance!

transmission has started bucking

are you sure it's the transmission. Misfires cause bucking too.

@imperator Thanks for the response! I'm not sure, that's a possibility. What is odd is it has done it on the same stretch of road both times and only in overdrive so far. I'm sure you're aware of the 5.4 liter and the plug issues and with that said my reluctance to change them. The truck is 20.5 years old with the original plugs however it only has 54,100 miles on it. I found a shop that will perform a free inspection and are highly recommended. One thing I don't like that I found on their website is they do transmission flushes. Aren't flushes bad if they use pressure to flush out the trans? Thanks again!

Sorry, I'm half asleep and hit wrong button voting, however I corrected it.

@imperator you were spot on! It turned out to be a misfire. Thank you!

good thing you came here 😆
