Hi Scotty

I’ve been looking at a 2005 SLK 350 with 58,000 miles, auto transmission convertible, asking price $12,500.
I know how you feel about these brands, but, the wife and I love convertibles. We live relatively near the shoreline and they make for a pleasant ride.
what do you think? Thank you!

If you love convertibles, you have a lot  better choices than the endless money pit that is Mercedes.  ESP stands for Electronic Stability Program, meaning that probably one of the wheel sensors is bad.  Hope you won the lottery.

Wow! What an uplifting and informative response.

Thank you for telling us about the ESP, Doc.
He's right. The only thing that's going to rise about that car is the bills.

I deal and service Mercedes vehicles all the time. I personally like German cars, but I will be the first to tell you that they REQUIRE maintenance and care in a timely fashion that most Americans do not do. And if they fall behind on maintenance, they can become very expensive to make right again.

An ESP malfunction could be any number of things, but most are sensors, as @Doc said. And while that may sound simple, it may not be cheap.

If you are considering an SLK, it is worth your time to take it to someone who knows those cars and have them go through it BEFORE you buy. The inspection cost can easily save you thousands. Personally I wouldn't buy the car, or any car, that has an active warning message/light as it is a sign of poor maintenance and, as I said, on a German car that is a no go. That's my opinion on it.

Thank you. I appreciate it.
