2005 Subaru Forester grinding when shifting at high rpm

I bought a 2005 Subaru Forester xs with a 5 speed manual. Currently about 67k miles. Almost any time I shift above 3,000 rpms, I hear a grinding noise while the clutch pedal is down. The sound disappears once the next year engages. I've just been shifting early to avoid the issue for the time being. The previous owner used the vehicle to teach a kid how to drive stick.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Turns out a weld broke lose on one of the exhaust mounts. Glad it was only a $200 fix instead of about a grand for a whole clutch kit

Well odds are the throat bearing to starting to go out but if you're ever going to put a clutch in my advice is to replace the whole clutch kit because it's such a pain to remove the transmission would be stupid to do it and just replace one part

New clutch package; disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing.  You could try adjusting the rod at the clutch pedal to see if you might be able to get a little more life out of the disc.
